Sarah Staar IM Newsletter – What Do You Do for a Living

RedTeslaAs you probably know, a couple of months ago I purchased a brand-new Tesla model S electric car. I picked it up from the showroom and drove it home.

When I got home I carefully backed it into the driveway and got out of the car. One of my neighbours was watching and walked over to my car and asked me a question when I got out.

“What exactly is it that you do for a living?”

“I’m an Internet marketer”, I replied

Jim, my neighbour, had a blank look on his face, “What does that involve?”

I proceeded to tell Jim that I sold information products on the Internet and had an email list.

I think he was none the wiser and I’m sure he still doesn’t really understand what I do for a living.

This is a common problem Internet marketers face. To be honest usually I don’t want to get into that conversation because it takes too much time to explain to people what I do.

If I don’t want to have that conversation with people I just tell them I work in  IT.

After my conversation with Jim it got me thinking, I needed to come up with a better explanation of what I do for a living.

A lot of people I meet at events and parties could be potential customers so after a lot of careful thought I’ve come up with a new explanation for what I do for a living.

Now when somebody asks what I do for a living now I say,

I help people retire 10 years early with twice their current income

This statement is designed to get people to want to be on my email list and learn about Internet marketing…

I’ve used this explanation of what I do for a living several times now with great effect.

For instance a couple of weeks ago I was at a party with my mother. This was a  party mainly consisting of musicians.

During the afternoon a couple of different people asked what I did for a living.

Well I have to say it worked incredibly well. When I told people what I did for a living, I help people retire 10 years early with twice the current income, I had their full attention.

“Can you show me how to do that ?!… Was the typical reaction I got.

After a brief explanation of what information marketing was I handed over my business card and told them they could join my email list.

I have realised that this is a fantastic way of getting new people to join my email list!!

In fact I’m in the process of creating a brand-new free product which I can offer to people after I tell them what I do for a living. This product will be offered on the back of my business card.

Can you guess what the product is called?

“How to retire 10 years early with twice your current income…”

I should have the product finished within the next couple of weeks and some new business cards printed up.

I’m going to create a special tracking link just from my business card so I can track,

  •  How many people have signed up
  • How much money I’ve made from those people

I’m going to report back in my newsletter in six months time and let you know exactly how many people have signed up to my email list, just from me personally giving out business cards to people.

I’m also going to tell you how much money I’ve made from those people.

London meet-up video

Last week was the second London meet up, thanks to everybody who attended. This will be the last meet-up until September, holidays and the rest getting in the way

During the meet up, I did a one-hour training session all about how to make $10,000 a month with an email list.

The good news is that I brought along my video camera and filmed the whole event. If you would like a free copy of the video you can get it below, no opt in required.

Who wants to meet up in London on Friday?

LonodonLunchMy good friend Martin Avis Avis is hosting his London lunch this Friday.

If you’d like a chance to meet up with me personally I would be delighted to have a chat over lunch.

The London lunch is a pure networking event no selling or pitching, just lunch.

Did you know…

Earlier this month I attended the first ever Cardiff Catch-up. This is a bit like a London Lunch but in Cardiff. One of the reasons I love these types of events is because I always learn something new.

Instead of keeping all these things to myself I thought I would list them in a special section in my newsletter.

The section is called “Did you Know”

What did I learn? Well I learnt loads of stuff but this week I will tell you about one particular thing that I think is pretty cool.

You can put a Facebook retargeting pixel within an email broadcast.

Woo hoo !!

If you don’t know how important that is to efficient use of traffic –  drop me a line !

HattonDiamondJobThe Hatton Diamond Job

A few years ago one of the biggest robberies of all time was carried out in London. The Hatton Diamond safety deposit box robbery.

The funny thing about this robbery was it was all carried out by criminals in their 60s and 70s.

One of the robbers even used his over 60s free bus pass to get to the job!!

Anyway they made a great movie all about it. It’s humorous but mainly based on fact.

It’s kind of filmed and edited in the same style as Snatch. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it.

Sarah Staar IM Newsletter – Helicopter Insurance?

I was looking through a very unused part of a cupboard the other day and came across a few books from my childhood, and one of them reminded me a bit of one of the reasons I got into marketing. You see, I’ve always had a fascination with how things work.

Even as a child I was always taking things apart just to see how they would work.

My grandmother even bought me a book called what makes it go, and this is what I found in my cupboard.

Being dyslexic I couldn’t read it, but the pictures and diagrams were totally fascinating.

I was equally fascinated to hear that some people could make a full-time income from their laptop.

When I found out that ordinary people were doing this, part of me just had to take the process apart and learn how to do myself.

I think I now understand one of the reasons I took flying lessons a few years ago – to learn how to fly a plane.

No, I don’t want to be a pilot, I just wanted to know how an aeroplane worked.

I also like the fact that I can get into a plane and take off and fly safely., and sit on the front seat while going around the Grand Canyon !

Today is a big day for me….

Later today I’m taking my first helicopter lesson. Again I don’t want to be a pilot. I’m just fascinated to learn the process..

Dave calls it, The zombie apocalypse helicopter insurance policy.

I don’t want to get a pilot’s licence, but I do want to learn how to fly a helicopter… You never know when that might come in handy.

I think Internet marketing is a very similar process. You don’t need qualifications or diplomas. Things don’t need to be perfect.

You just need to get 10% of things right and you will make money as an online marketer. Stop trying to make things perfect and get on and make some money…

Let me show you step-by-step how things work

If I sat down with you and showed you my step-by-step process for making money online, do you think you could get 10% of things right?

Join me this Thursday for a live online class where I want to teach you how to become financially independent.

Click here to sign up 🙂

I’m going to take apart 10% of my business and show you inside. I’ll be showing you step-by-step what you need to do to start making a full-time income now.

I was a bit concerned when I saw that the seat I was about to sit in had a button which said

water on or off.

For ages now I’ve been wanting to go see a film in 4DX , the new cinema format.

This is a cinema that has :

  • electronic tilting seats
  • wind
  • smell
  • water
  • flashing lights

Last week I took the plunge and decided to go and see the latest alien film “Alien Covenant” in 4DX, a truly terrifying thought!!

So on Wednesday, we drove all the way to Crawley, our local cinema that has 4DX.

We walked into the cinema and sat down, everything looked normal enough, and then I saw that the seat I was about to sit in had a button which said water on or off!

The seats were also a lot larger and more comfortable!!

Adding things like, wind and smell to a film is incredible. Add these things to a horror film, well I think you get the picture….

Alien Covenant is not as terrifying as some of the earlier alien films, but it is well crafted and in terms of filling in the backstory as to how the Aliens came about its a must see film for anyone who is a fan of the earlier movies.

Sarah Staar IM Newsletter – The Accident

Last Thursday I went on my first continental road trip in my new Tesla. My plan was to take the Channel Tunnel to France and then drive the remaining 300 miles to the house(s) in Normandie.

My plan was to see how well the Tesla supercharger network worked in France. Dave was a bit sceptical with regards to whether I would make it to the house without running out of power!!!

I stopped three times in total to charge.  First in Folkestone, in the Channel Tunnel car park, which was a good use of the 20 minutes time I had to wait for my train.

I also charged for 20 minutes at, Rouen and Caen. The best part is it’s free to charge your car using the Tesla superchargers!!  And when I arrived at the house I still had 60% charge left!!

Last week at the London Meetup Martin Avis was asking if I had a home charger at the house in France.  Well the answer to that question is “No I don’t”.  This is because I signed up to a French charging network called Kiwhi.

Now the cool thing is 20 miles away at my local city Saint Lo, Kiwhihave a free (yes FREE) to use quick charger at the local Nissan garage.

TeslaChargeFrance2It was a bit strange rocking up to the local Nissan dealership in my Tesla to charge my car!!

Now you need to remember Saint Lo is a very small city in France,so I thought I would be the only electric car owner in town!!

Turned out to be an assumption that was less than accurate !

There were two other electric car owners there with Nissan leafs at the charger…

It just shows how fast things are moving even in rural France…

The key thing though is this.

If I was driving a regular car I would have paid 600 miles round trip worth of fuel.

Driving an electric car – no fuel costs at all.

Isn’t that just cool !! Effectively free diesel or petrol !!

The Accident…

Saturday afternoon I was hard at work doing some decorating and general DIY work in the new house next door.

Dave and I were trying to work out where to put the new lights on the ceiling in the games room.

This is a huge 60 square metre room,645 square feet,  it’s in the middle of being renovated so has a just a bare concrete floor.

Saturday afternoon I was standing on a plastic chair marking out on the ceiling where the lights were going to go,  you can kind of guess what happened…

I lay there on the concrete floor in agony reminded of my own mortality…

Luckily Dave was there to help me up.  We realised that we didn’t have any painkillers in the house and it was 4:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday. In France everything closes at 5 p.m. on Saturday!!

Dave helped me into his Jaguar and Dave drove at very high speed to the local town where there was a pharmacy.

The pharmacist there was brilliant, and spoke pretty good English as well, she not only supplied me with Ibuprofen but also fitted me out with a sling for my arm and a support bandage for my ankle.

Last month’s I spent a week in Phoenix Arizona at ICON. During the week I spoke to loads of people and discovered lots of new tools and software products, some free and some premium.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be listing some of them here in my newsletter…

Slack (Web browser and mobile app)

Slack is a brilliant new free tool I’ve discovered. It’s very similar to Skype but aimed solely at businesses.

Slack has the same functionality as Skype except it does a much better job of saving the chat history. It also has a very good search function.

When you search it searches through all chat logs and also searches through all files which have been shared!!

Me and the team here at Sarah Staar Business School have been using it for a week now and I am a complete convert!!

The Founder

Founder movieThe story of Ray Kroc, a salesman who turned two brothers’ innovative fast food eatery, McDonald’s, into one of the biggest restaurant businesses in the world with a combination of ambition, persistence, and ruthlessness.

I found this movie very interesting because I used to work in Mcdonalds back when I was a student!!  It is a fascinating business story of how Ray Kroc turned a failing franchise business into the biggest restaurant empire in the world!!

A fascinating insight into, systems, thinking outside of the box, and how to build an empire, a MUST SEE!!
