Yesterday a large chunk of the Internet stopped working!
As you’re probably aware a lot of things we do online and on our phones uses something called cloud computing and cloud storage.
One of the largest companies on the Internet that handles cloud computing is Amazon S3. Yesterday one of Amazon’s major data centres unexpectedly shut down causing chaos across the Internet!!
Everything from entire websites to tracking programs, mobile apps, email servers and loads more stuff stopped working for around six hours yesterday.
Some of the companies that were affected were:
And the “outage” also affected several people doing product launches yesterday…
Hmmm.. glad I wasn’t one of those…
The stupid thing is this could have all been avoided….
When you upload content to Amazon S3 you have two choices, you can either upload your content to a single server, or you can use their CDN service.
The CDN service replicates your content to multiple locations around the world, so if one data centre fails your content will still work.
Whenever I have something that absolutely has to work I always use Amazon CDN, Amazon calls this Amazon Cloud Front.
Whenever you upload content to Amazon they give you this option however for some reason very few people use it. I guess things might change now…
I’m actually quite shocked that companies like ClickfFunnels and Wickedreports don’t use the Amazon CDN Cloud Front.
I think I am going to write a letter to Clickfunnels and Wickedreports next week about this!!
After all, ClickFunnels is sort of “mission critical”, not just to me but to other people as well and for them to risk hitting their clients businesses like that is.. Well.. at least negligent if not downright careless.
So the simple moral of the story is if you’re using Amazon S3 always create an Amazon cloud front bucket. This will protect you from any data centre outages in the future….
New video on blog – 5K Per Month Case Study
I’ve just uploaded a brand-new video to my blog – 5K Per Month Case Study – Creating videos and getting free traffic.
This is the second video in the series about video marketing. In the first video I shared with you how I get traffic using YouTube advertising and how I made $30,000 using YouTube advertising.
Below is a link to Mondays video.
And a big “thanks” for those of you made all the positive comments and feedback about Mondays video. It was a pleasure making the video for you.

Movies – Snowden
Yesterday I settled down to watch a movie I have been wanting to see for a long time – Snowden.
In case you had forgotten Snowden is the guy that copied loads of secret documents from the NSA in America and released them via Wikipedia to the world.
This is an absolutely brilliant film by Oliver Stone.
This movie is about The NSA’s illegal surveillance techniques, Prism, and if you’ve ever seen the TV show Persons of Interest there are some very interesting parallels, a case of fiction unknowingly parallelling real life !
It’s incredibly gripping and a massive eye-opener. As an Internet entrepreneur this is a must watch!
According to how you see things, Snowden is either a defender of democracy or an out and out traitor..
I suggest you watch it and make your own mind up !
Must go now as I have loads of stuff to do before my road trip to London tomorrow.
Tomorrow I’m heading off to the Broadcast Expo in London, BVE. On the way I am going to stop by the Tesla garage to find out what the ETA is on my new car.
All the best,
Wow I can hardly believe I’ve made over quarter of a million dollars sitting in the front seat of my car !
How did I do this?
Am I the world’s most expensive uber driver?
Maybe I’m an exclusive getaway driver?
Well, the simple answer is, sales videos. As you probably know I’ve made a couple of sales videos sitting in my car such as Affiliate Formula X.
And as you may know from previous newsletters – its called “Pattern Interrupt”
Well the time has come to sell my trusty range Rover Evoque. I’m planning to upgrade to an electric car, a Tesla model S.
I will miss my Range Rover, however, as it’s been an incredibly reliable car and great fun to drive. Also, as it’s been my first ever car I will be sorry to see it go.
I’ve never actually sold a car before so I wasn’t sure how to go about it.
I came to the conclusion that the best thing I could do was take lots of photos and also make a sales video!!
If you’re interested in buying my car you can view it on
Anyone who buys my car I would be happy to throw in some free coaching as an extra bonus!!!
I think we over ordered again!
I just love Indian food, I enjoy cooking it and I also enjoy going out to Indian restaurants.
However, it can be quite hard to find Indian restaurants that serve good food!!
One trick is to see if a menu has any special order items on it. My local Indian restaurant round the corner has such items on it.
One was a leg of lamb. The menu stated you needed to give at least 24 hours notice.
Ok, so I had to give this a try.
I phoned up the restaurant and ordered a leg of lamb, they seemed a little bit surprised, I guess not very many people order this!!
We turned up to the restaurant and there was a table reserved for us. The waiters wheeled out this leg of lamb on a trolley and everybody in the restaurant turned round to look!
Wow, the meat was falling off the bone. We had a fantastic meal but we definitely over ordered!!
We took the rest of it home. So far we’ve had sandwiches, and I have also made lamb curry out of the remains.
It was actually incredibly cheap for what it was. It cost £50 for the leg of lamb, however this probably would’ve been enough to feed at least four or five people.
So if a group of people want to go out to an Indian restaurant this would definitely be worth considering….
Where do high ticket sales come from?
A lot of my success has come down to one thing, and that is video marketing of some sort.
Getting affiliate review videos ranked in Google
making sales videos, sometimes in my car!
Outsourcing video production
In fact most of my high ticket sales, $2000-$10,000 come as a direct result of somebody seeing a video on YouTube!
Because of this, I have decided to produce a brand-new course teaching everything I know about how I make money with video marketing.
If this is something that might interest you please reply to this email.
Infusionsoft Mastery by Troy A. Broussard
This is a book that was recommended to me on the Internet marketers cruise. If you’re in Infusionsoft user this is a definite “must-read”.
It Is not really a technical manual it’s more of a book on sales strategy and behavioural marketing.
I bought both the paper book and the Kindle book.
Some books don’t have an audible version, audible is an audiobook service.
However I do have a Kindle which has a text to speech function. This is a function that was discontinued due to writers objecting. I guess they wanted an extra fee if a machine was reading out the text????
Anyway the Kindle DX (currently discontinued and was only available in the USA) has this feature.
If you want to get one you have to get one on eBay, that’s where I got mine.
Whenever I go on a long car journey I set my Kindle to text-to-speech and get it to read the book to me and that’s exactly what I did with Infusionsoft Mastery!
Last night I watched a fantastic film called Imperium. This is a story about a young FBI agent who goes undercover to infiltrate a white supremacist group that’s plotting to build a nuclear device.
The interesting thing about this film was, it was all about how to influence people.
One scene which I found interesting was, when the FBI agent was getting advice from a colleague, the colleague told him that the only training he needed when working undercover was in this book.
“How to Win Friends and Influence People”!
The great thing about this film is he actually uses his brain to get out of tough situations rather than just running around with a gun!!
A great suspense thriller.
All the best,
Online video is probably one of the easiest ways to get traffic to your website or just simply to get your message out there.
When I first started making serious money with affiliate marketing one of my favourite free traffic techniques was with YouTube video marketing.
The process was as follows:
I would make a really simple video talking about the product.
Upload the video to YouTube.
Do some simple back linking to the video to get it ranked in Google.
I made literally tens of thousands of dollars promoting ClickBank products back in 2009 – 2010 using video.
This worked so well because back then YouTube was growing massively and Google was ranking YouTube videos with very little effort from my part.
The interesting thing is, right now the same thing is happening with Facebook and video.
You may have noticed recently that an awful lot of video is suddenly appearing on your Facebook timeline. A lot of them even auto play.
Facebook recently announced that the growth in video views exceeded 50% from May through July of this year, and since June there has been an average of more than 1 billion video views on Facebook every day!!!
What does this mean for us?
What this means is Facebook is taking on YouTube big time, and they are giving priority to Facebook posts that include video.
But the big news this week is that you can now put a call to action link that is clickable at the end of your video.
As soon as your video has stopped playing a call to action button pops up with a link to your website, pretty cool.
To add a clickable link to a video all you need to do is,
Create a Facebook page if you don’t have one already.
Create a new post and upload a video, not a YouTube video.
Once you’ve selected your video you will see a Add a Call to Action link. There is a drop-down menu where you can select a button and a space where you can entering your website address.
That’s basically it when the video finishes playing the screen changes and your button appears with a link to your web-site.
This is something I’m going to be experimenting with a lot over the next few weeks. I think there is a lot of scope for making some serious money using video on Facebook.
Let me know your thoughts….
Open Track Day – How fast can i drive?
A week or so ago I was hammering round Brands Hatch on an open track day (for those of you in the US, Brands Hatch is a smallish racing circuit just south of London currently used for motorbike and saloon car races, very twisty and not an oval !).
The process the organisers used got me thinking.
The first part of the day was taken up with a driver briefing about how to drive the track and what to do if…….
The second part of the day was 3 laps of the circuit going round behind a car driven by an instructor, the idea being to learn the proper lines to take and the braking points.
The third part of the day was basically zipping around the track with all the other cars, learning the track and the limits of the car and basically just having fun !!
One of the highlights for me was having a chat with one of the instructors and listening to them tell me some of the tricks and tips for how to get round the track really quick.
And that advice really worked.
Which got me to thinking…
There are so many things in life where learning from others, being taught how to do things, like driving a car or flying a plane, are absolutely essential.
And especially if you really want to succeed and do so quickly.
So how come so many internet marketers are happy to buy products.. but not buy the coaching to learn how to use them properly ??
Isnt that the equivalent of buying a car, but not learning how to drive it properly…?
Which then led me to think about creating my own accelerated results programme, given that so many of you have emailed me recently asking about 1 on 1 dedicated coaching.
So look out for a special email from me later this week about my coaching programme.
Cool 3-D movies:
A few months ago Dave and I went to our local IMAX cinema and watched an amazing film called Gravity.
Now until I watched Gravity I wasn’t really a big fan of 3-D, but I must say the 3-D experience whilst watching this film was incredible.
If you haven’t seen Gravity it’s well worth watching. It’s a seat of your pants action packed film that has some absolutely out of this world special effects.
Yesterday Dave and I watched Gravity again at home on 3-D Blu-ray. Now I really wasn’t expecting it to be very good on the 55 inch television. I was totally wrong it’s still amazing film to watch even on the small screen.
If you get a chance to see Gravity in 3-D at home or in the cinema you won’t be disappointed, its one of those movies where you think its only 1 hour or so when in reality its twice that long but you get so into it time flies by…
all the best,
